The National Airports Corporation (NAC) will install two new X-ray screening machines at Mt Hagen and Goroka Airports by the end of May 2026 to improve airport security and safety compliance.
Valued at K3.5 million, the machines were purchased in late 2025 and arrived at Lae Port on 26th April 2026. Installation is expected to begin soon.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Mt Hagen Airport Asphalt Overlay Project, Civil Aviation Minister Wake Goi expressed delight in seeing the new equipment
“I am pleased to see these important machines finally arrive in the country. They will significantly improve security screening at both airports and ensure compliance with civil aviation rules and regulations.”
The machines will replace aging systems currently in use at both airports. NAC said it is working closely with contractors to complete customs clearance, transportation, and installation on schedule.
The National Airports Corporation says the upgrade is part of its ongoing commitment to improving safety and security standards across Papua New Guinea’s airports.
