NEW POLICE BARRACKS FOR MADANG

Madang will soon have a new Polce Mobile Squad barracks to help ease pressure on police operations in the province.

Police say officers have been stretched for years, often moving between districts without a proper base.

Madang Provincial Police Commander Robert Baim said the new barracks will make a big difference.

“Our officers have been moving around a lot. The new police barracks will give them a base and help them do their work properly,” he said.

The project was launched during a groundbreaking ceremony attended by government leaders in Madang.

Baim said the timing is important, with major developments expected in the province that will increase security needs.

“This will support our operations. We need to be ready,” he said.

He said the new facility will also improve living conditions for police officers, which has been a long-standing issue.

Many officers still face accommodation problems, which affect how they work.

“When you look after your officers, they can look after the people,” Baim said.

The new barracks will host a mobile squad based in Madang, reducing the need for units to travel in from other areas. This will improve response times and reduce pressure on existing teams.

Baim also thanked the government for supporting the project, saying it shows stronger commitment to law and order in the province.
