RABAUL RUGBY TEAM KICKS OFF 2022 WITH K40, 000 FROM BSP RABAUL RUGBY TEAM KICKS OFF 2022 WITH K40, 000 FROM BSP
The Rabaul Rugby Schools Select Side (RRSSS) team will kick off its 2022 season with a K40,000 sponsorship boost from BSP Financial Group Limited (BSP). The team is among 12 that will take part in the 2022 seasons of the Rabaul Rugby Football League (RRFL) School Rugby League Competition in East New Britain Province. BSP Rabaul Branch Manager David Pilai said BSP continues in the path to identify, develop and support young talents through sports and what better way to do so through this sponsorship of K40,000 towards the Rabaul Schools Select Side and (RRFL) competition for yet another year. “BSP believes in supporting the communities we operate in. Whether it be through sports development among our youngsters in the community level or through our Community Projects covering Health and Education, one of which you can see if you go to Matupit. “This sponsorship support will go towards upgrading the second sports field which will be used in the competition. Trophies, sporting equipment and competition cost is also covered in this sponsorship by BSP. Apart from the K40, 000 sponsorship, BSP will also run Financial Literacy Training in selected grades in schools that are participating in this competition,” Mr Pilai added. RRFL President Michael Marum on behalf of the Rabaul Rugby League Executives, School Coordinators, staff and officials thanked BSP for coming through with a sponsorship of K40, 000 again in 2022. Last year’s sponsorship saw 750 students from five (5) different schools in Rabaul participate in the Rabaul Rugby School League program. “Rabaul rugby league in its revival stages in 2021 has already become a model league in the country which has a fair representation of players of men, women, boys and girls. This is something we are proud off. We set high standards in our competition seniors and juniors and want to become better ambassadors of the code, place we come from and who we represent,” Mr Marum said. “Without BSP’s support we would have not been able to send 60 of our kids to represent Rabaul in Kokopo during the schools championships, NGI in Port Moresby during the national schools championships which was something our players have been missing out on for nearly 20 years. With this partnership our future kids can see the partway we have created for them to be able to also participate in such programs in years to come. We look forward to a successful 2022 school competition,” the president added. BSP as the biggest financial and banking institution in PNG and the Pacific, not only assist rugby development programs; we also support junior development in other sporting codes such as cricket through the BSP School Kriket Program, Tennis and Squash through their National Championships, Golf through the Junior Pro Am, Indoor and Beach Volleyball, just to name a few. “A testament to this is PNG’s Cricket team - PNG Barramundis. The Barras took part in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Final Series last year. Nine of the 16 players were identified through their participation in the BSP School Kriket program. Their talents were developed and eventually made it to the senior men’s team to represent PNG. So we hope this sponsorship will also see talents identified and developed for future international rugby matches,” Mr Pilai further added.

ILIMO EXPANDS MILK IN SCHOOLS PROGRAM ILIMO EXPANDS MILK IN SCHOOLS PROGRAM
Under nutrition comes in many forms and shapes, however stunted growth is the prevalent form in PNG. Stunting (impaired growth and development) in children is caused by an inadequate supply of essential nutrients, such as calcium, protein, vitamins and carbohydrates needed for healthy growth. In August 2021, Papua New Guinea commenced its first trial of milk in schools program. The program implemented by Ilimo Dairy Farm at Nonu Independent Institute of Education, Boroko, Port Moresby is exclusively sponsored by Kina Bank. The program included daily distribution of a Ilimo milk stik that is made from fresh Ilimo milk, to the school’s children and` included class sessions on a variety of topics that helped the children learn about dairy cows, the milk they produce, the nutrients in milk, the benefits of drinking milk and other dairy products such as yoghurt and even ice cream. Gallit Tamir, Business development manager of Innovative Agro Industry, the developers and operators of Ilimo Dairy farm said “Nutrition is an integral part of the child’s academic education. Educate the children on good nutrition, to enable them to make the right choices. Provide the children with nutritious meals and they will incorporate what they are taught”. “Milk contains a full nutritional package. In fact, milk is known to be the number one single food contributor to most of the bone-related growth nutrients. Whole milk alone has 9 essential nutrients that every child needs for their growth” “We are now looking to expand the Milk in Schools program in 2022 and seeking for more sponsors” she added, “the results of the sponsored by Kina Bank are outstanding. Not only did we record impressive positive impact in the physical growth of the children that received the daily dairy portion, moreover their attendance and cognitive development including in aspects monitored such as reading and writing, concentration in class and social skills has reflected remarkable improvement as the program progressed.”

‘NOT CLOSING THE DOOR’: 40YO OPALS LEGEND SET TO MAKE ‘DREAM’ NBL RETURN ‘NOT CLOSING THE DOOR’: 40YO OPALS LEGEND SET TO MAKE ‘DREAM’ NBL RETURN
After almost six years away from the court, one of Australia’s greatest-ever basketball players is back. Former Opals star Lauren Jackson confirmed her return to the sport, signing with NBL1 East team Albury Wodonga Bandits. The 40-year-old, who hails from Albury, will get the chance to play in a stadium named after her at the Lauren Jackson Sports Centre. Jackson labelled the chance to play for her hometown team as a “dream come true” and refused to rule out anything, including a potential return to the Opals. “When I played in America and Europe, overseas living the dream, there were times when I just wished I played for Albury at home, so it’s a bit of a dream come true,” Jackson told News Corp. “I haven’t really played for eight years and I haven’t played a game yet so I’ve got not idea what to expect. “After a couple of months of playing NBL1, who knows how I’m going to feel, what I’m going to be doing or how I’ll be playing, it’s a complete unknown. “I’m just going to keep doing what I’m doing at the moment because it seems to be working and we’ll see wherever it takes me, who knows? “I’m not closing the door on anything.” Bandits President Luke Smith was ecstatic to have secured the signature of an Australian sporting great. “We’re just over the moon that Lauren’s playing for her hometown and her home club,” Smith said. “It’s huge for the Albury Wodonga Bandits and for the Albury Wodonga community. “I think it’s going to be a really big year and we’re really looking forward to her playing in a stadium named after herself and in front of her friends, family and her two boys. “They’re at the age where they’ll be able to remember seeing their mum play, not only basketball, but basketball at home too.” Aside from the community and family benefits of Jackson playing for the Bandits, Smith expressed his delight about what she will bring to the squad. “Our young players are going to have a massive opportunity to play and train with arguably the world’s best-ever female basketball player,” Smith said. “It’s huge for them, it’s huge for every kid and it’s huge for every basketball player in Albury Wodonga.” Jackson is a four-time Olympic medallist and one of the greatest WNBA players in the league’s history. A 3-time WNBA MVP, she had her No. 15 jersey retired by the Seattle Storm after retiring in 2016 due to a series of chronic knee injuries. At a domestic level, Jackson is a five-time WNBL champion and a four-time WNBL MVP. She is also in the Australian Basketball Hall of Fame and holds the honour of being the first Australian inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. SOURCE: FOX SPORTS

‘IT’S SCARY’: CRONK‘S BIG WARNING TO NRL OVER NEW STORM RECRUIT ‘IT’S SCARY’: CRONK‘S BIG WARNING TO NRL OVER NEW STORM RECRUIT
NRL legend Cooper Cronk believes new Storm recruit Xavier Coates has the potential to become one of the best wingers in the game in a warning to the rest of the competition. The 20-year-old made the move south from the Broncos and already has Origin experience under his belt being a part of the winning 2020 side and the 2021 team. Coates has become known for his acrobatic try scoring ability and his blistering pace, made all the more impressive by his imposing frame out on the wing. After making the big switch, former Storm premiership winner Cooper Cronk believes coach Craig Bellamy knows exactly how to take Coates’ game to the next level. “I think it is scary what Xavier Coates could do this year,” Cronk said. “Melbourne Storm have a history of finding players, particularly on the wing, Coates is already a star, he has played Origin but he could become one of the elite wingers in the competition. “I think of Koroibete, Vunivalu, Addo-Carr and I think Xavier Coates will be pushing that marker to be one of the best wingers in the game within a very quick period within the start of the 2022 season.” Melbourne’s new recruit possesses all the hallmarks of a top-quality winger including “speed to burn and electric skills up in the air” and Cronk believes he has them all in spades. But there is one aspect of his game that could be pivotal to his success at the Victorian club. “Defensively, Craig Bellamy will instil that into his bones about how to defend on the wing and he has good decision makers inside of him, I imagine he is going to play outside Justin Olam,” Cronk said. “The ingredients are there for Xavier Coates to just follow in Josh Addo-Carr’s footsteps.” SOURCE: FOX SPORTS
