NO SPECIAL TREATMENT FOR THE SICK AT THE POLLS NO SPECIAL TREATMENT FOR THE SICK AT THE POLLS
Sick patients and their guardians admitted at Brown Memorial General Hospital in Finschhafen District, Morobe Province have been told to cast their votes in their respective ward areas if they wished to take part in the elections and will not be given any special treatment. Assistant Returning Officer for Finschhafen Urban and Kotte Rural Essau Lilibur issued the advice yesterday before allowing the polling to commence in the area. He said sick patients and their guardians from outside of the Finschhafen area admitted at the hospital had to find their own way to their polling locations to cast votes as ballot papers were set according to the population records for Finschhafen Urban and Kotte Rural. Lilibur also reminded the patients wishing to have their say in the 2022 elections had to consider their health status first before going out to cast votes in their areas. He said there's no legal document that guarantees patients to go cast votes and they have to make their own decisions either to go cast votes or not. Polling commenced yesterday morning in the area while Yabim Mape and Hube areas commenced today.

ANG RESUMES FOKKER JET SERVICES TO KAVIENG
Air Niugini wishes to advise the travelling public that the airline will resume its Fokker jet services to Kavieng airport, New Ireland Province effective from Monday 1st August 2022. The resumption of Fokker flights follows the completion of runway maintenance and upgrading works by the National Airports Corporation (NAC). However, we do appreciate the work done by NAC and Asian Development Bank (ADB) via the CADIP 1 program to upgrade the runway and build a new terminal. “ Mr Abbot added “Air Niugini is pleased that the works are now complete and we can resume our Fokker 100/70 jet services into Kavieng airport”. Effective from 01st August, Air Niugini will operate daily Fokker jet services between Port Moresby and Kavieng, as well as connecting the provincial capital of New Ireland with Rabaul, Hoskins, Lae, Manus Island and Buka. THREE NEW COVID-19 ANTIGEN RAPID TEST KITS APPROVED
The Controller of the national pandemic response David Manning has approved for three additional Covid-19 Antigen Rapid test kits for Covid-19 screening in the country. The three new COVID-19 rapid tests kits are Singclean Antigen RDT, Lookspot Antigen RDT and Flow Flex Antigen RDT for SARS CoV-2 screening and diagnosis Deputy Controller Dr Daoni Esorom said. “Quality diagnosis of diseases is crucial as it ensures appropriate clinical intervention is administered but equally crucial is having the testing kit that is validated for use in PNG. This ensures the diagnosis is reflective of the true status of the patient. Validation was undertaken by the Central Public Health Laboratory (CPHL) in 2021 to ensure that process is carried out,” Dr Daoni said. These new rapid Antigen Testing Kits are in addition to BioPen Antigen RDT Kits that was initially approved by NCC for COVID-19 testing in the country in 2020. We now have four approved tests kits in the country. These are the only approved tests kits to use for COVID-19 testing.” Dr Daoni said. Lookspot Antigen RDT test detects the nucleocapsid protein from SARS-CoV-2 in nasal swabs from suspected Covid-19 patients in the first eight days of the symptom onset. It delivers results in five to eight minutes. This rapid test kit is a smartphone-based diagnostic device with a lateral flow immunoassay developed from Laipac an internet medical developer. Meanwhile, Flowflex Antigen Rapid Test is manufactured by Acon Biotech Hangzhou Co. Ltd. The Flowflex SARS-CoV-2 Ag Rapid Test detects the presence or absence of the antigens specific for SARS-CoV-2 in nasal and nasopharyngeal specimens. Dr Daoni confirmed that these are the only Antigen rapid tests kits approved for COVID-19 screening and diagnosis in PNG.

TWITTER HAS TAKEN BILLIONAIRE ELON MUSK TO COURT TWITTER HAS TAKEN BILLIONAIRE ELON MUSK TO COURT
It comes after Mr Musk announced he was walking away from his proposed $44bn acquisition of Twitter on Friday. He claimed Twitter had not given information about the number of fake and spam accounts on the platform. Now Twitter has asked a Delaware court to order Mr Musk to complete the merger at the agreed $54.20 per Twitter share. "Having mounted a public spectacle to put Twitter in play, and having proposed and then signed a seller-friendly merger agreement, [Mr] Musk apparently believes that he - unlike every other party subject to Delaware contract law - is free to change his mind, trash the company, disrupt its operations, destroy stockholder value, and walk away," said the lawsuit. The lawsuit went on to accuse Mr Musk of "a long list" of violations of the merger agreement that "have cast a pall over Twitter and its business". Twitter chairman Bret Taylor tweeted that the microblogging site wanted "to hold Elon Musk accountable to his contractual obligations". The lawsuit said Mr Musk had backed out of the deal because it "no longer serves his personal interests". Mr Musk is the chief executive of electric car company Tesla. The lawsuit said that after Mr Musk agreed to the deal, the stock market fell, along with Tesla shares. "The value of Mr Musk's stake in Tesla, the anchor of his personal wealth, has declined by more than $100bn from its November 2021 peak. So [Mr] Musk wants out," it said. "Rather than bear the cost of the market downturn, as the merger agreement requires, [Mr] Musk wants to shift it to Twitter's stockholders," it added. Twitter's share price has fallen more than 8% in the past month, and in May tumbled from highs of more than $50 per share, as Mr Musk questioned the number of fake and spam accounts on Twitter and said the deal was "temporarily on hold". On Friday, Mr Musk said he was pulling out of the deal, claiming a lack of information about spam accounts and inaccurate representations amounted to a "material adverse event". He also said Twitter sacking executives meant it was not living up to its obligations. In response, Twitter said it planned to pursue legal action to enforce the agreement, saying it was "committed to closing the transaction on the price and terms agreed upon with Mr Musk". The original merger agreement includes a $1bn (£830m) break-up fee. Mr Musk, a self-described "free speech absolutist", had pledged to loosen Twitter's content moderation rules once the company was under his ownership. He has been a vocal critic of Twitter banning some accounts, such as that of former US President Donald Trump. Mr Musk has also called for more transparency over how the platform presents tweets to users - a system that currently allows some to be promoted and given wider audiences. Source: BBC News.com

SLATER'S BACKFLIP OVER MAROONS AS HUGE CALL LOOMS SLATER'S BACKFLIP OVER MAROONS AS HUGE CALL LOOMS
Maroons coach Billy Slater was adamant he wouldn’t be “playing games” in the lead-up to the series opener — but that attitude has clearly changed. Following Cameron Munster’s omission due to Covid-19, Cowboys playmaker Tom Dearden has been brought into the starting 17. Slater confirmed the 21-year-old would wear the No.6 jersey, but wouldn’t reveal if he would run out alongside Daly Cherry-Evans to start. NRL360 host Braith Anasta highlighted the big shift in Slater’s mentality suggesting the pressure is on ahead of a Game III decider. “We interviewed Billy Slater before Game I and after Game I, after the victory, and there was no playing games, it was all laid out, this was the team I am picking, this is the team that is running onto the field,” Anasta said. “Then all of a sudden, we go to Suncorp in a decider and Billy has changed, it is amazing.” The rookie coach previously stated ”I’m not here to play games” prior to the series opener after naming Ben Hunt in the No.9 jersey, explaining “he earnt the right” to start. But now, when asked if Dearden will be given the opportunity to start, Slater remained tight-lipped. “Can you confirm that Tom will start at five-eighth?” a journalist asked during Monday’s press conference. “No I can’t... I just can’t confirm right now, our players are very clear on their roles, I’ll say that,” Slater responded. “He will play five-eighth when he is out there, just whether he starts or not we will make that decision closer to the game. “We have to name a 19-man squad today, and then we will name our team an hour before kick-off. “We are pretty clear.. I know my team, I know our team.” Slater explained his side have two options to take over the vacant five-eighth positions — Ben Hunt and Tom Dearden. “We have an opportunity to start Harry Grant and Ben Hunt can move into the halves, he is leading the Dally M at the moment, he is playing some great football, that’s why he is in the team. “We’ve got an opportunity to start Tom Dearden, so they are the two scenarios we are sort of flirting with at the moment.” Slater also threw his full support behind the Cowboys young gun who has enjoyed a strong season with the revitalised Cowboys outfit who currently sit second on the competition ladder. “I have said to Tom a number of times throughout the series, if he was wearing a Maroons jersey throughout the series I wouldn’t be concerned one bit,” Slater said. “Now he is going to be and I am really confident in Tom... he is a true competitor, he is a tough defender.”
