Australia is providing three-million kina to support improvements at Kokopo Market in East New Britain.

Australian High Commissioner Ewen McDonald, East New Britain Governor Michael Marum and Kokopo MP Ereman ToBaining Junior visited the market to discuss the planned upgrades with vendors and management.

The funding will support new solar security lighting, upgraded ablution facilities, repairs to wash stations and improved waste management.

It will also provide technical assistance to strengthen the East New Britain Market Authority’s governance and financial management.

High Commissioner McDonald says the improvements will benefit vendors, customers and the wider community.

The funding is being provided through the PNG-Australia Partnership.

The High Commissioner’s visit to East New Britain also included the opening of a new library and early childhood education centre at Sonoma Adventist College, funded through Australia’s Incentive Fund.
